Q:
I've heard a well respected video producer say that it's the little guy that you
should watch out for -- they are more dangerous than big guys because they have
to be. He says "Big guys too often rely on their instant respect and do not
learn to handle situations properly and efficiently. Label it with whatever you
like...lazy, comfortable, inattentive."
What do you think?
A.
Be careful here...
Sun Tzu talked about the similarities of combat between individuals and combat
between armies.
Generally these factors determine victory:
Mass
Speed
Firepower
There are some changes when you are either the defender or the attacker (it
takes less resources to defend than attack) or where you are on the terrain
(e.g. high ground vs. low ground).
All things being equal, the bigger guy is going to win. So for the little guy to
win, he has to turn all the other factors to his advantage.
I'm not comfortable with the generalization that big guys aren't as dangerous as
little guys. But, my veterinarian tells me that it's always the LITTLE dogs that
bite!
In personal combat, size does matter. But, there are
many other variables that matter as well.
Bottom line: never, ever underestimate your attacker no
matter what their size or demeanor.
Train hard.
