The Big Overhand Right -- Video of Actual Street Fight

A lot of questions we get concern what kind of initial attack you should expect.

Every street fight is different and the variables are so numerous that you cannot predict how the fight will unfold. But the paradox is that many fist fights are fairly predictable in that there are only so many ways a human can attack another.

The big overhand right, sometimes called the "haymaker", is one of the most common attacks you'll see on the street.  Check out this video at: http://www.big-boys.com/articles/asswhoop.html  (Note: graphic language).

Some reactions:

  • When you are running your mouth, "talking trash", you attract trouble and you are ripe to having your jaw broken.  It's difficult to talk and fight at the same time.  Notice that the attacker doesn't bother to make a sound.
  • Protect your head.  One punch and the guy is down and out, unable to defend himself.
  • Get off line of the attack.  The attacker strides in like a freight train and the smack talker makes no move to "get off the tracks".

Watch the video and rehearse for this type of punch, it's very common.
